A historic district is defined, by Virginia Department of Historic Resources, as a significant concentration of buildings, structures, or sites that are united historically and aesthetically by plan or physical development.
The Wachapreague Historic District nomination was approved by the State Boards at their meeting last Thursday. The district is now listed in the Virginia Landmarks Register. Next, the nomination will be sent to the reviewer at the National Park Service. Following NPS approval of the nomination (approximately 90 days), the district will also be listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
